is a medium-size tree with irregular crown and forking trunk, often crooked.  Reaches heights of 4 to 80 feet with a diameter of 1 to 2 feet.
Habitat:

open areas with sandy soils; also in woodlands.
      Range:  Pennsylvania and Ohio to Alabama and Georgia;  also from S. Missouri to E. Oklahoma.
