Common Name - American Basswood

Scientific Name - Tilia americana

The flowers are yellowish white;  1/2 to 5/8 inch long, with 5 petals;  in fragrant clusters;  maturing in early summer.   The fruit is woody,  nutlike, rounded, hard;  3/8 inch in diameter;  drupes about the size of peas borne in small, loose clusters at the end of a slender stalk which is attached to a strap-like leafy bract;  gray with fine hairs;  maturing in late summer or early fall.

Description:
